| 7/10/2008 - I didn't get to go to Limaland to see the Brad Doty Classic. Like some other people, I have a day job that tries to interfere with my love of racing. Some of my family was able to attend and purchased an event shirt for me. As they were wandering around before the race, an announcement was made that there was an autograph session going on and they made their way over to see what was happening. There were five of the very best winged sprint car drivers smiling, signing autographs, and relating to fans. They took the shirt they had purchased for me and each of those drivers signed that shirt. There is no amount of money that could get that shirt away from me. What it means to me is the same thing that I am sure other fans experience. I have a shirt that the "King", the "Wild Child", the "Brownsburg Bullet", the "Crowd Pleaser", and Brad Doty each signed for me. Not just signed for me, but signed for me because they appreciate their fans as much, if not more than the fans appreciate them. Another driver story - a young teenage fan came to the Ollie's 360 Challenge at Eldora on Tuesday with her family with the hopes of seeing her hero. After purchasing some souvenirs, they walked back to their van to put things safely away so they could enjoy the race. Looking up from their task, they see Kasey Kahne walking through the parking lot near their vehicle. This young lady approached Mr. Kahne and asked for an autograph. While it always amazes me, I am no longer surprised by the kindness of this group of athletes. Kasey stopped to autograph this fan's items, spent a couple of minutes talking with her and then went on about his business of the day. With just a few moments of his time, he earned some more new fans...the family of the young lady and the people to whom they tell this story. We will be at Eldora this weekend for the Knight Before and the King's Royal. We will also be at the Kings Reunion at the Eldora Ballroom on Saturday. 12/29/2007 - Rumble in Fort Wayne 2007 is over. There has been excellent racing all day. (No finishes as exciting as last night's, but still a good show) The main event tonight was won by Tony Stewart, followed by Mike Fedorcak and Dave Darland. Thanks to all the people involved in putting this together. It is sure a real nice break from the winter doldrums in the midwest. There were several mishaps today. We hope that no one was seriously injured. Another thing we really enjoyed this year, was the Slingshots. They put on a terrific show both nights. Don't know much about these cars, this was the first time we have seen them. They run in Pennsylvania along with some other places. They look like they might be a very affordable way to start a racing habit. Their website (if you want more information) is www.SSSpeedways.com. We hope they will be back next year. 12/28/2007 - Friday night at the Rumble is over. There was a great finish that a lot of people missed. Seems that when Tony Stewart crashed out of the main, some people thought the race was over. People got up and left...to me this is unthinkable! There was fantastic racing going on! What are these people thinking? As a fan of racing, I am ashamed that these people walked out on some of the best drivers in the country. And as a Stewart fan, I am ashamed that they feel that the race was not worth watching just because he was out. What a crock of stuff! Anyway... CONGRATULATIONS TO BILLY WEASE! You and Dave Darland put on a heck of a show tonight. Sorry some of those faux fans were not there to see it! The rest of us thought it was FANTASTIC! |
